Still haven't started in on those New Year's resolutions? Fret not, because you've just been given an extension! Another New Year's celebration is just around the corner. We're talking, of course, about February 18, 2007 and the Chinese New Year (also known as the Lunar New Year). Now not only can you celebrate all over again, you can also get a fresh start on the year ahead!

In the Chinese zodiac, there are twelve animal signs. In 2006, we were in The Year of the Dog. For 2007, we welcome in the fun-loving Pig.

Some Pig!

Just like Wilbur in the classic children's story Charlotte's Web, people born in The Year of the Pig are honest, generous and enjoy living it up with family and friends. They love splendor (just imagine wallowing in all that glorious mud!) and can turn a ramshackle hut into the Taj Mahal. They will often be found at the museum, opera or ballet, as they are connoisseurs of fine culture, and not surprisingly they also love food. The one common flaw of people born in The Year of the Pig is that when they do lose their temper, which is rare, they really throw a fit! But the rest of the time, you won't find a more sincere, warm-hearted, generous person alive.

Famous pig people include Hillary Rodham Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Julie Andrews, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Marie Antoinette, Humphrey Bogart, Lucille Ball, Alfred Hitchcock, the Dalai Lama, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers!

Conflict and Transformation in 2007
For each Chinese New Year, the animal sign is always associated with the basic five elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth). In 2007, the elements associated with The Year of the Pig are Fire over Water, with Water eventually overwhelming Fire.

The Fire element is associated with conflict and lack of control. Water is associated with flood, damage, destruction and covert operations. But Water also represents germination, transformation and the beginning of new relationships. So although The Year of the Fire Pig may portend disharmony and struggle, it also signifies that this conflict may bring about positive change in the long run.

Personal Forecasts
To figure out which animal sign you have in the Chinese zodiac, count forward twelve years at a time from the year of your birth until you reach one of the base years below. That will most likely be your Chinese sign (people born in January or February should double-check the date of the Chinese New Year in the year they were born, since it will fall in January or February depending on the Lunar Calendar).

Rat (1996): If flexible and open to change, success will be yours.

Ox (1997): Keep an eye on your possessions during this busy year of work and travel.

Tiger (1998): You'll have lots of fun this year with a new partner in love or business.

Rabbit (1999): Resolve any weirdness from last year and the New Year will be full of fun and friendship.

Dragon (2000): A time to relax and socialize, but not to embark on new projects.

Snake (2001): Lay low this year, consolidate resources and rejuvenate yourself.

Horse (2002): Opportunities may come your way if you keep an open mind.

Goat (2003): Maintain high standards of integrity, and love and opportunity will flourish.

Monkey (2004): Take the time to do your research before jumping in.

Rooster (2005): Reevaluate your priorities, so that your successes this year are in line with your values.

Dog (2006): Stay focused during this year of selfless service.

Pig (2007): Comfort abounds, but be careful to avoid indulgences.

As it is said for the Chinese New Year, "Kung Hei Fat Choy!" Congratulations and be prosperous!
