There's been so much turmoil in my life - a divorce and a move away from my ex-husband and step kids into an apartment in the city. My dog Paco, an eight-year old Beagle, (I'm nuts about him!) seemed to have made the adjustments to our new lifestyle, until we began taking evening walks on a beautiful canyon trail near our new home. A little way into our hikes Paco would plant all four paws firmly into the ground, nose down, and refuse to budge. I worried that his new and unusual behavior was a sign of doggie depression.

"Paco says he's not a baby anymore and not to worry about him," Marceea reported immediately after she took my call. She asked if I'd had Paco since he was a puppy. I relaxed a little, grateful that Paco hadn't begun the session with any serious issues, then told Marceea that I had adopted him at eight weeks old. I felt even better when she described the tension and anxiety that had filled our former home, reporting that Paco can tell that I'm more at peace now, which makes him much happier.

And even though he likes having all of my attention, he told her that I should worry more about myself, than him. She described my little canine as a gentle spirit and a sweet dog, which is totally true. He sometimes whines when I'm not there, but it's a result of outside stimuli rather than loneliness, she said.
Knowing this, my big question to Marceea, followed. "If Paco is so happy, why is he acting out on his walks?" I asked. "Paco is out of shape and it's hard for him to go up the hills!" Marceea divulged. She even saw him as being a bit overweight, saying that he really does need the exercise. It all made sense, as before the move, we walked only four to five times a week. At our new place, since we don't have a yard, he now gets three walks a day. I was so relieved to have an answer.
"Give him small treats along the way on your outings as incentive to keep him walking up the hills," advised Marceea. "You've never done this before," she added. That was also true, but since then I've tried it out on our walks and it's working well. The extra calories are countered by Paco's increased exercise and my dog is now a happy hiker.
I decided to bring up an old issue that I have with Paco, since the reading was going so well. Evey now and then he'll lick me or other people obsessively. Marceea described him as being high strung and sensitive and conveyed that this behavior is a reaction to the undercurrent of anxiety he got from me in my old relationship, which "he felt as a wound."
I told Marceea that Paco's nervous habit has decreased since we moved into our apartment, perhaps because I'm not as anxious as I used to be. She told me to offer him a treat to help him stop the obsessive licking. I've tried it and it's helped, too.
To end the reading Marceea saw me dating someone connected to my walks with Paco. And I did meet someone… at the home of the friend who often walks with us in the canyon.
Paco sat next to me on the bed throughout the reading. I hung up the phone saying "Yay! Paco's happy," looking right at my sensitive, loving Beagle. What a relief it has been to know that my best friend is not suffering any emotional pain. He was just a little out of shape and I really didn't have a clue!
