Tune in to Karma Air TODAY for an exclusive interview with Ryan Buell, star of Paranormal State, the dramatic new television series that premiers on A&E tomorrow night (Dec 10 at 10pm/9C). Dark Matter's own Michael Parker will talk with Ryan about what it's like to be a paranormal researcher who deals with supernatural mysteries, hauntings and ghosts.

It all kicked off for Ryan Buell when he was a child lying in the bunk bed of his parent's home. He clearly saw, felt and interacted with what he described as a "grinning, troll-like demon" hovering above his bed. When Buell wrote about his experiences for the school paper, he was met with criticisms of being "un-Christian." Such is life growing up in a small Southern town where he was told to "move on," to "go ahead and have a normal life," and to "spend more time going to church."

Yet he was never able to shake what he knew he saw. Instead, quite the opposite occurred - he became fascinated by it.

As time passed, Buell grew more and more curious about other realms, spirits and hauntings. With the help of the Internet, he also found out he wasn't alone in his experiences and interests. He immersed himself in the history of the paranormal, the supernatural and anything and everything falling under the category of "that which could not explained." He then became determined to explain it. Not one to sit back and wait for someone else to do the work, by age 15, Buell began officially investigating paranormal occurrences.

"I wanted answers," he says, remembering his otherworldly encounter (and the start of what would turn out to be his career). Even at that time he notes, he "didn't want to be a ghost hunter." It was something more than that.

Buell wanted to help people.

Nine years later, that's exactly what 24-year-old Buell is doing. Only now, it's professionally as the Founder and Director of the Paranormal Research Society (PRS), an organization he founded while a student at Penn State in 2001. The work of that organization, as well as the day to day lives of Buell and his college-age team of paranormal detectives are the subject of the new series Paranormal State, which premieres Monday December 10, 2007, at 9pm on A&E.

Get an up close look at their lives as they come of age in a career that Buell's own parents describe as "the sort of thing that's going to get you a bunch of funny looks." If you think you know what to expect out of a group of 20-somethings working on the fringe of the spiritual realm (whatever that may be), the show might just surprise you!

With the mission statement of "Finding the truth behind terrifying real life mysteries, hauntings and ghosts," this is not your average college club. Nor are the crew "researchers" in the traditional academic sense. Members in addition to Buell include: 1) an occultist raised as a Pagan 2) a finance major and technology expert determined to document the existence of the otherworldly 3) a second generation intuitive who is not comfortable referring to herself as "psychic" - yet! 4) a film major and musician who says her work is "so fun I would love to be doing this for the rest of my life." Together, the Paranormal Research Society (PRS) are highly trained, skilled paranormal detectives whose cases have garnered worldwide attention. Their clients range from regular families, to the police to the Catholic Church!

Whether it's exhuming human remains, going into the home of strangers because they feel there is some kind of spirit harassing them, spending time doing research, or a practice they call "Dead Time," Buell describes the work PRS does as not just helping people, but "true charity… doing something for someone else with nothing to gain." Hopefully, through their adventures chronicled on Paranormal State, he'll at least gain some insight… and those answers that led him down this road in the first place.

Tune in to Karma Air on Sunday, December 9, 2007 5PM PST, to hear Ryan Buell interviewed live by Michael Parker on Dark Matter!
