Fox News Online Reporter Robin Wallace tested the psychic waters for a story... and walked away a believer. She wasn't exactly a skeptic to begin with, but her trips to two New York City psychics had an impact - and lead her to conclude that while the field has some phonies, there are psychics who are very real.
Wallace first visited a woman named Fahrusha who specializes in palmistry and Tarot reading. She says that after a thorough palm inspection (powered by a magnifying glass), Fahrusha was "dead on."
The psychic went on to describe the reporter's husband to a tee and Wallace writes that she is "a little unnerved" when the card representing her husband depicts male image that bears an uncanny resemblance to him. She writes:
"(Fahrusha) then asks me if the name "Michael" means anything to me. This truly stuns me. My husband's name is Michael, many of the men in his family are named Michael and my daughter, had she been a boy, would likely have been named Michael (over my objections)."
Wallace explains to Fahrusha that she and her husband debate the naming of their children, as she wants them to have their own names, not those borne of relatives. But Fahrusha insists, also predicting a male child to be born to Wallace in the coming year:
"This child will be Michael," she declares. "It's important that you carry this on," she says.
In addition, Fahrusha knows Wallace's sister's last name, and makes her write down a bizarre word with her daughter. Two weeks later, a baby girl is born in Wallace's family, and when her 3-year-old tries to speak her new cousin's name, it "sounds a lot like Fahrusha's nonsense word."
Wallace's second psychic reading is with Steven C. Robinson. Unlike Fahrusha, who didn't want any information upfront, Robinson asks Wallace about herself and the people in my life. She finds this strange since he is supposed to be psychic... but his answer is interesting:
"It doesn't help you for me to tell you things you already know," Robinson says. "How does it help you for me to tell you that you're married, or how many children you have or what your mother's name is? You already know that."
Going in and out of trances and jotting down the sights, sounds, smells and predictions that come to him, Robinson describes a surgery her mother had 25 years ago. He says two male names, which happen to be the names of her family members, but he insists they represent men related to her professional future. Like Fahrusha, he predicts a male child to be born during the same time frame Fahrusha suggested.
Robinson offers some additional predictions, some of which also coincide with Fahrusha's… and when Wallace asks him if it's possible to measure or certify someone's psychic abilities, he explains the process and invites the reporter to audit some classes. He believes, like many, that all people are psychic, it's what they do with the ability that varies.
