It seems like many brides (and bridesmaids) have tired of the old and somewhat dated traditions leading up to a wedding. After all, so many couples who marry these days have already been living together, so housewares often are unnecessary. And while new lingerie is always nice, the days of white weddings, for the most part, have gone by the wayside. So why not try something different? And if you're into trends, have we got one for you!!
The Knot reports that psychic reading bridal showers are taking the town! While it may seem a bit risky to let a psychic read the future of the couple in question, the real fun is for the guests who want to know what their futures hold! If you're in the "always the bridesmaid" category, this is the shower to throw!
For invitations, The Knot suggests "gorgeously designed Tarot cards" in order to give guests the heads up on the fortune-telling fun that's to follow. On that note, we suggest you take it a step further and make each invitation unique. Then, ask your guests to bring the card they received along to the shower. The cards will make great conversation pieces and can even be incorporated into the readings if you'd like.
When it comes to decorations, The Knot suggests images of the zodiac, low lights, beaded curtains and hanging gold stars from the ceiling. If you're into going over the top, give it a shot! But you don't need to go that far into cliche to get a mystical atmosphere. Incense will do a lot for the mood, as can the sound of running water. If you don't have a Zen fountain handy (which, most likely, you don't!), you can get nature cds or even any variation of mood music (my personal favorite: sitar).
While you're at it, if you want to go more Eastern in theme, consider Kama Sutra cards. This keeps a little of the saucy bridal shower spirit alive but gives it a new spin.
Of course the most important element to this event is the psychic you select! You need to get a professional. Consider your theme when selecting your psychic - you can most certainly find someone who specializes in Love, or Tarot or anything else for that matter. The Knot suggests asking the psychic to indulge attendees by wearing the traditional fortune teller's shawl and gold hoop earrings. Our take on that: it's up to you (see note on decorations). Just remember, that you can go Age of Aquarius without going sideshow. Whatever you decide, make sure your psychic is aware of the atmosphere and that you get a good match. This way, the readings won't just be fun, but informative too...
After all, you don't need to be a bridesmaid forever!
