Dear Chelsey,
As you have just learned, there are times when life comes at you quick. You have two very huge and very separate issues that you need to deal with.
Marriage is huge step, one that shouldn't be taken lightly. If you have reservations about your relationship or your lover, then you most likely shouldn't be rushing into a legal union.
You have a year to expand and explore your relationship, and that is also a year to decide if marriage at this point in your life is really what you want to do. It is much easier to cancel or postpone a wedding than it is to get a divorce.
What you should be focusing on is your pregnancy. You are going to be a mom. That is a much bigger responsibility than being a wife. Married or not, you are still going to be a mom. Your life is no longer about you. Now, it is about your child.
I strongly encourage you to get counseling to help you deal with your pregnancy, and take some parenting classes. Having a baby changes your life, no matter what your age. Being as young as you are, you are going to need some help and guidance. Fortunately, with the support and programs available to you, you don't have to leap into parenthood blindly.
You and your child deserve a happy and healthy life. You don't have to be married to your child's father in order to be a family. Just as you are the mother, he is the father. Each of you have the same level of responsibility - regardless of marital status.
Take things a step at a time. Everything tends to work out in the end. While you may not have the easiest road ahead of you, you will manage to come through the challenges. While this may not exactly be the future you wanted, it is the one you have created.
