Brilliant Aquarian Actors
What is their unusual allure?
by Cortney Litwin
Unconventional and even precocious, actors born under the sign of Aquarius often choose roles that are in sync with pop culture - or are at least unusual in some way. After all, Uranus, the planet of rebelliousness, originality and brilliance, rules Aquarius. John Travolta, Diane Lane and Christian Bale are Aquarians who have made their mark in Hollywood in typical Aquarius fashion. Let's take a look at their charts to see what makes them so unique.
Pulp icon John Travolta Travolta catapulted to stardom when Saturday Night Fever hit the theaters in 1977. His role as a street-smart stud with a flare for disco dancing perfectly reflected the subculture of the era and helped spawn a craze for disco music. Much later, his role in Quentin Tarantino's breakthrough film Pulp Fiction (1994) would show off Travolta's compelling star-power all over again.
Born on February 18, 1954, Travolta has several mutable placements - Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter - which make him unusually versatile as an actor, singer, dancer and writer. No doubt it was this versatility that landed him the part of an overweight housewife in Hairspray, as surely an unconventional role as his Aquarius nature could want. However, Travolta's Moon in earthy Virgo gives him a practical, analytical side. Virgo is the perfectionist, but with Venus and Mercury in Pisces, he also has a superb imagination.
In relationships, he's highly sensitive and devoted - he's been married to actor Kelly Preston since 1991. On the other hand, Mars in adventurous Sagittarius gives him some fire. It also heightens his faith - Travolta has been an active Scientologist since the mid '70s. The last of the mutable signs in his chart is Jupiter, the planet of luck, in Gemini, the sign of travel. One of Travolta's passions is flying. He has a pilot's license and owns several jets. True to his Air sign Aquarius Sun, this actor is all about soaring to new heights.
Child prodigy Diane Lane A precocious Aquarius, Lane began acting professionally at age 6 in New York plays, and made her film debut at 14 in A Little Romance in 1979. Her leading man was Sir Lawrence Olivier, no less. Born on January 22, 1965, Lane has a friendly, girl-next-door Aquarius persona. What's more, her Moon in loving Libra gives her a charming appeal for romantic roles, which can be seen in Under the Tuscan Sun, A Perfect Storm and Must Love Dogs. True to her rebellious Sun sign, she broke the rules - and her vows - in the film Unfaithful, where she plays a married woman who falls for a book dealer (perfect for a brainy air sign, by the way). Perhaps it was her Aquarian energy that made her so convincing, because she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
But Lane isn't all about breaking the rules. She has Mercury conjunct Venus in practical Capricorn, which gives her a traditional streak. Aquarius is known to crave change, but in romance, this leading lady craves stability and longevity. Perhaps her second marriage to actor Josh Brolin (2004) will be her happily-ever-after!
Eccentric hero Christian Bale What could be more unconventional than a man who spends part of his life as a bat? Bale undoubtedly called upon his uncanny Aquarius side when he starred as Batman in Batman Begins and in the upcoming sequel The Dark Knight.
Also typically Aquarian, Bale was in the spotlight at an early age. He was just 13 when he starred in Steven Spielberg's critically acclaimed film Empire of the Sun in 1987. Bale received a special citation for Best Performance by a Juvenile Actor from the National Board of Review, an award specially created for his performance. Also, his Aquarius charisma has attracted quite a cult following on the Internet, leading Entertainment Weekly to proclaim him one of the "Top 8 Most Powerful Cult Figures of the Past Decade."
Born on January 30, 1974, Bale has a "grand air trine" involving Mercury and Jupiter in Aquarius, Uranus in Libra and Saturn in Gemini. He's most comfortable in the intellectual realm, weighing and analyzing his choices before coming to a decision. It also makes him an insightful communicator. However, like Lane, he has an abundance of earth in his chart. His Moon is either in earthy Taurus or fiery Aries, depending on his time of birth. Regardless, his Mars is in Taurus, which adds some patience and practicality to his personality - and adds a brooding physicality to his onscreen presence. Also like Lane, he has Venus in Capricorn, another earth sign, indicating he would have little patience for pretentious people. In relationships, he appreciates women who are sensual, beautiful and down to earth. In 2000, he married Sandra "Sibi" Blazic, an Aires with four planets in Taurus. Astrologically, this spells true love.
